I created this website to help you, the bird owner, give your pet the best care possible.

While I do sell birds, the primary function of the website has always been to educate fellow bird owners. Most people grow up with dogs and cats and have at least a general idea of how to care for them properly. It’s easier for humans to “read” other mammals. Dogs and cats have been domesticated for thousands of years, and while some birds have been domesticated, very few parrots have. As prey animals, parrots react very differently to situations than dogs and cats. Bird behavior is completely foreign to the most people and it can lead to a lot of miscommunication. I strongly believe that education is key to providing birds with safe and loving homes.

This site is slowly being transitioned over from my old site. If you see an option for an article but no link, that article has not yet been updated/moved. Some of my original articles were written over 20 years ago and information has since changed. You can still find these articles on the old site.

About the Author

I have been keeping birds since 1991 and have worked with budgies, cockatiels, kakarikis, Indian ringnecks, Brotogeris, various conures, African greys, and a few other Australian parakeets. I have a B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona and studied Avian Science for two years at UC Davis, where I was co-president of the Avian Science Club. My articles have been published in Bird Talk, the ASA Avicultural Bulletin, as well as various bird club newsletters. I’ve had the pleasure of giving talks on kakarikis and general bird care.
